It doesn't happen to me very often. I'm the kind of guy that likes to find his own adventures; discover my own deserted beaches and historical retreats. I don't like to play by the rules. I like to make up my own. I prefer Chetumal to Cancun; Catemaco to Veracruz, Teotitlan del Valle to Oaxaca City. Give me a long dirt road over a gleaming super highway, a little-known cenote over a swimming pool. I like it where the crowds don't go!
Well - usually, that is. There are times when the trail dust cakes too deeply in the back of the throat, when the scorching sun takes it toll and causes one to see visions of utopian oasis just around the next bend in the trail. I get tired of treating ankle blisters and pouring on the mosquito repellent. Sometimes I just want to check out of high adventuring and settle back to a tall Pina Colada, watch tourists spend their money, and be treated to comfort creatures I normally choose to avoid.
Besides, it's not always easy taking the kids into the bush, and finding a perfect "happy tourist" spot isn't so bad if you're careful about the time of year you travel (being extra careful to avoid high season and weekends).
Welcome to the Playa Del Carmen's Iberostar Paraiso Del Mar Resort, an all-inclusive family facility on the Riviera Maya that caters to your every need. From the palatial open-air entry and tropical gardens with lily-framed pools to the crystal-white sand beach and glamorous pools, the resort is enchanting, romantic, and dramatically beautiful.
Recognized by vacationers as one of the best all-Inclusive resorts, Paraiso means paradise - and that's what this high class joint delivers. Located about ten minutes north of Playa del Carmen on 3/4 mile stretch of beach, the resort is a slice of Eden with its flourishing gardens and never ending pools of pleasure weaving through the contours of the facility like a tropical lagoon.
For children ages 4 to 12 years of age there is a resort program called “Star Friends” which provides day long supervised activities. Tweens may participate in the activities but have the freedom to checkout on their own. The resort features a wide variety of beach and ocean sports for the active traveler including windsurfing, kayaking, snorkeling, diving classes, water polo, volleyball and catamaran rentals. Daily schedules provide time for tennis, aerobics, dance classes, basketball, table tennis, swimming in an amazing pool, massages, and a Jacuzzi.
Four fabulous specialty restaurants are connected by walkways over lagoons near the open-air lobby. The main dining room has buffets offering delectable choices, including pizza.
Nights come alive at the El Teatro, featuring high energy shows including Broadway reviews and contemporary dance routines; dance contests, game shows and never ending conga lines.
For scuba diving enthusiasts, the Five star PADI and SSI diving center offers excursions to the treasures of the Caribbean reefs. Play a game of tennis, workout in the gym or just relax in the Jacuzzi.
As if that wasn't enough, the Resort offers a ritzy spa, a discotheque, barber shops and styling salons, boutique shops, a swim up bar and daily aerobic classes.
All right. All this talk of sweet comfort is making me homesick for the open road. So it's back on the trail for me. But put this resort on your list of places to go when the adventure you are seeking calls for nothing more than splendid relief and self-indulgence. Enjoy!
